Australia’s broadband was called one of the slowest and most expensive in the world by a 2007 OECD report (ranking the 30 industrialised OECD member countries). Australia rated second last, beaten by the likes of Poland, Belgium and Mexico. Ouch. Having said that, we have Big Plans afoot to keep up with the Joneses with the national rollout of our brand spanking new National Broadband Network already underway (www.nbnco.com.au) and due for completion, well, some time, apparently.
If you need to get wired in Bondi Beach, you can now enjoy free WiFi down at the beach and Bondi Park (conditions and time limits apply) or head here for a handful of other options:
World Sky Internet
4B/78 Campbell Pde
(in that weird arcade, up on the first floor)
Civic Video Internet
155 Curlewis St
Ezy Mart City Convenience
Shop 8/180 Campbell Parade
Free wi-fi cafes
Rather than roaming the streets looking for a random unlocked network, the following spots have free Wi-Fi and mostly great coffee to boot! Check for unlocked networks or ask for their password.

Free power at your table
In a bold new move (for Australia anyway) Miss Chu, in the middle of town, has installed free iphone chargers at every table for iphones and Macs. Not just power points mind you, the actual charger, hanging down from the roof. So, chow down on some of Sydney’s finest dumplings, wash them down with your Lychee Cucumber Mint Vodka Crushie (mmm) and power back up at the same time. Brillo.
